With scripts written, it was time to consider light costumes and props to help viewers better understand their origin stories. Conversations and discussions included not wearing t-shirts with printing that would detract from the performance. Students became very industrious with construction paper, markers and tape! The result? Distinct characters for their performances.

Each group needed to have a brief introduction about their origin people and their location in the world. Some of these were caught on tape and others were not. All video taping was done with the iPad and students were in charge.

I used the YouTube app for uploading, as I am finding that sometimes Mac and Google don’t communicate as well as they should. This is what took me so long in writing part 3 – I was encountering trouble uploading the videos directly through YouTube through my Photo Stream. As soon as I used the YouTube app, the process came along quite quickly.

All the videos are posted om my You Tube channel, kmslaunchpad, but here are a few for good measure.

The End of the World as We Know It, Origin Story from Zulu

The Gods, Origin Story from Greece

How the First Human Was Made, Origin Story from China

The Great RA, Origin Story from Egypt

Prometheus: Outlaw, Origin Story from Greece

Performance day was a hoot. Kids were very excited to see each other and were very serious about their own performances. We joined the other grade 6 team and saw their plays – kids remarked how fun it was to see how other groups of students interpreted the same origin story.

Stay tuned for the final installment where students convert their origin story into a modern day graphic novella!
